Assignment: Packaging / 3D Renders / Web Graphics / Exclusive Trading Card

For this premium collectible statue, I was assigned the task of creating the packaging. Because the statue was designed to look like a classical Greek sculpture, I took inspiration from posters created by the British Museum to give the figure an air of sophistication.

The packaging was designed before the figure existed, so imagery on the box was created with 3D renders of the statue in Blender. For the renders, I also took inspiration from the way museums photograph their collections, giving a dramatic rim light and harsh shadows to highlight the form. To finish the packaging, logos were placed in an elegant gold foil.

EXCLUSIVE TRADING CARD

Leonardo’s anatomical sketches

Leonardo’s anatomical sketches

This card was included with the figure, and functioned both as a trading card and as a Certificate of Authenticity. The back of the card was based on other cards in our DC Comics line of trading cards, but for the front, I pitched the idea of something like a sketch by the “sculptor” of the statue, like a page out of Leonardo da Vinci’s notebook.

The front of the card was completed with the help of John Muniz, who rendered the torso and hand sketches, as well as concept art from Kyle Wlodgya, the original designer of the figure. The CZX logo was included as a deco foil stamp with etching (shown here in flat gold color), and the card was printed on a thick stock for a premium look and feel.
